ASMedia Technology Inc. is now officially sending ASM1051 real silicon for next-generation Super Speed USB (USB3.0), after demonstrating their self-design PHY for PCIE Gen2, SATA 6G and Super Speed USB (USB3.0) in COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2009.
Chewei Lin, a CEO of ASMedia Technology Inc., says ASM1051 is a single chip solution to bridge USB3.0 to SATA Gen 2. Its Electrical Specifications and Transmission Protocol are both passed the validation test of PIL (Platform Interoperability Lab). Many consumers have spent much time on copying video files to the portable HDD due to the low-speed data transmission rate of USB2.0, because of the improvement of video specification and the bigger file size. According to the test report, the transmission speed is rated couple of times faster than USB2.0 when ASM1051 works together with USB3.0 Controller. Users, therefore, not only can save much time when copying or reading the files but also benefit from the improved efficiency.
Currently, Super Speed USB host Controllers are provided by limited vendors. However, the supplies of Super Speed USB Devices are limited to Fujistu and LucidPort. Due to the limited availabilities, Super Speed USB market is underdeveloped. ASMedia Technology Inc.has performance proven product by USB-IF PIL lab. That also shows Taiwanese manufacturers are in the lead in the IC design area. With the advantage of vertical integration and the availability of experienced system manufacturers, Taiwanese chip makers are able to short the lead time. It will be soon that consumers can benefit from USB3.0.
