ASMedia’s USB4® Device Silicon Has Passed Thunderbolt™ 4 Certification

Release Date: March 6, 2024 (Taipei)

ASMedia Technology Inc. (5269, TPE), a leading brand in the high-speed transmission IC design sector, recently announced that its USB4® device silicon ASM2464PD and customer reference board have passed Thunderbolt 4 certification. The ASMedia ASM2464PD is the first non-Intel accessory silicon to obtain the Thunderbolt 4 certification, following its prior USB4 certification by USB-IF.

ASMedia’s President Che-Wei Lin said, “Our device [ASM2464PD] has achieved further success, which recently garnered recognition from the Intel Thunderbolt team. Following last year’s pioneering achievement to obtain USB4 certification, it has now become the only accessory silicon, apart from Intel, to obtain Thunderbolt 4 certification. Through meticulous testing and verification by third-party testing organizations, the product has met strict requirements on optimal signal quality and backward compatibility, pushing quality to even greater heights. With dual certifications, the ASM2464PD undoubtedly demonstrates its capability to deliver higher compatibility and superior quality and thus makes it an unparalleled and unique Thunderbolt 4 & USB4 product in the market.

Jason Ziller, Vice president of Intel’s Client Computing Group and general manager, Client Connectivity Division, said, “Products that pass Thunderbolt certification demonstrate improved quality and compatibility across diverse product applications. We are glad that leading companies like ASMedia see the value that the Thunderbolt program delivers and they have taken the extra effort needed to complete this certification. We look forward to devices using this silicon to complete Thunderbolt certification and coming to market soon”

ASMedia’s USB4 device product ASM2464PD has already entered into mass production. ASMedia’s Thunderbolt 4 device product ASM2464PD can achieve speeds of up to 3800MB/s, approximately twice the speed of the previous USB3.2 Gen2x2. ASMedia’s Thunderbolt 4 accessory silicon leverages the built-in PCIe Gen4 packet switch technology and harnesses Thunderbolt 4’s distinctive high bandwidth capabilities. This empowers customers to adopt this series of chipsets to configure PCIe devices or NVMe flash drives according to market positioning and product planning. Moreover, the product design emphasizes a high level of integration with peripheral components (up to 6 in 1) and adheres to a concise modular concept. This design philosophy enables customers to craft Thunderbolt 4 product lines that not only carry inherent value but also exhibit a differentiating edge in the market.
