Global high-speed transmission interface leader ASMedia Technology Inc., announced its latest high-speed transmission solutions for AI infrastructure and edge computing at CES 2026. Highlights include high-compatibility, high-efficiency PCIe Packet Switch technology supporting Peer-to-Peer (P2P) transfer, and USB4 device solutions optimized for AI accelerators. The showcase focuses on key applications such as AI edge computing, eGPU expansion, high-performance storage, and AI accelerator interconnects.

As generative AI moves from the cloud to the edge, high-speed interconnection and low latency between devices have become critical. ASMedia’s PCIe Packet Switch technology provides flexible and efficient data channels for workstations and edge computing devices, helping customers maximize AI computing efficiency.

Key Application Scenarios:

  • AI Accelerator Integration: In edge computing, a single AI accelerator card often struggles to meet the demands of massive models. By using ASMedia’s PCIe Switch ASM58048 (48 Lanes) as a central hub, customers can integrate multiple AI accelerator cards to effectively multiply computing power. The key lies in its support for P2P (Peer-to-Peer) direct connection technology, enabling accelerators to exchange data directly without routing through the CPU. This eliminates transmission bottlenecks, achieves true "AI High-Speed Collaboration," and significantly boosts overall computing performance.
  • Massive Capacity Surveillance Expansion: For smart factory surveillance or big data archiving, the ASM58048 demonstrates the flexibility to scale to nearly 100 drives. The chip supports up to 16 PCIe Gen4 x2 ports. When paired with ASMedia’s SATA controller (ASM1166), a single system can support up to 96 SATA storage devices. This "Fan-out" capability provides a highly competitive solution for customers requiring massive storage space.
  • NAS High-Speed Cache Acceleration: To address AI data preprocessing and frequent access workloads, the ASM58048 enables multiple high-speed NVMe SSDs to be connected at the NAS front end, forming a high-speed cache tier. This architecture delivers high-throughput PCIe Gen4 performance for active data, while background writes are directed to backend HDDs, effectively resolving common I/O bottlenecks in AI workflows.
  • USB4 Integration for Mobile AI Workstations ASMedia also showcased a new application scenario for the ASM2464PDX: a USB4 external AI and eGPU solution designed to create flexible mobile and edge computing platforms.

By pairing the USB4 device controller ASM2464PDX with the PCIe Gen4 Switch ASM58012, ASMedia has built an integrated edge computing platform that simultaneously supports external graphics cards, multiple NVMe SSDs, and 10GbE networking. The live demo highlights the stable bandwidth performance of USB4 in AI acceleration and external GPU applications, meeting the high-performance demands of mobile workstations, industrial PCs, and AI edge devices.
