ASMedia, a global leader in high-speed interface ICs, won the Computex 2026 Best Choice Golden Award for its Edge AI Multi-channel High-Speed Switch. The award-winning PCIe Switch ASM58000 series targets edge computing and Physical AI. It is adopted in medical equipment, AI accelerator cards, IPCs, and edge servers, bridging local Large Language Models (LLMs) and big data storage. Additionally, ASMedia's USB and PCIe expansion architecture provides options to upgrade end devices and add AI computing power. The company also showcases its 12nm PCIe Gen5 and USB4 80Gbps PHY technologies to meet the demands of servers, data centers, and edge AI.

1.PCIe Switch ICs and Applications

To meet the data exchange needs of GPUs, NPUs, 10 GbE network cards, and NVMe SSDs in edge computing, the ASM58000 series offers 6, 12, 24, 48, and 80-lane specifications. The per-lane transmission speed is 16 GT/s. It supports dual GPUs for AI accelerator Peer-to-Peer computing. For industrial control, servers, and Physical AI robots with limited lane configurations, the ASM58000 provides port bifurcation and mixed configurations, allowing systems to design topologies based on bandwidth requirements. It is currently deployed in the following fields:

  • AI Computing and Servers: Applied in enterprise servers, edge computing servers, AI acceleration architectures, and local LLM computing expansion. The ASM58080 80-lane specification can expand up to four (x16) GPUs or AI accelerator cards. It features Peer-to-Peer functionality, allowing direct data exchange among multiple GPUs to reduce AI model training latency and system bottlenecks.
  • Storage and Expansion Devices: Adopted in fanout expansion architectures for storage equipment and PC motherboards.
  • Medical and AIoT: Adopted in medical analysis instruments (such as hematology analyzers) and AIoT edge devices.

2.USB and PCIe Integrated Solutions

This flexible expansion meets the needs of edge computing scenarios and Physical AI devices. Furthermore, by connecting the USB4 40Gbps ASM2464PDX interface to the PCIe Gen4 Switch ASM58000 series, standard laptops and desktops can add GPUs or AI accelerator cards externally to acquire edge computing capabilities.

3.12nm PCIe Gen5 and USB4 80Gbps PHY Technologies

  • 12nm PCIe Gen5 PHY: Built on a 12nm process, it offers a single-lane transmission rate of 32 GT/s, providing the bandwidth specifications required by servers and data centers.
  • 12nm USB4 80Gbps PHY: Built on a 12nm process, it supports PCIe Gen 5 Upstream. It features DisplayPort 2.1 Tunneling and USB3 GenT transmission. The connection configuration supports Asymmetry Link, providing symmetric 80Gbps bandwidth or asymmetric 120/40 Gbps bandwidth.
